In this guide, we’ll walk you through step-by-step installation for BMW Sky Lounge Roof Ambient Lighting Kit so you can enjoy a professional, factory-like finish at home. Whether it’s applying the film, routing the spring wire, or installing the LED light strip, each step is designed for a precise fit and easy setup.
Step 1: Film Installation
- Clean the sunroof glass thoroughly and make sure the surface is completely dust-free. Please prepare your own cleaning solution.
- Spray the cleaning solution evenly onto the glass surface.
- Apply the ambient light film evenly onto the sunroof glass.
- If the film size is slightly larger than the sunroof, carefully trim the excess edges to match the shape for a perfect fit.
Important Notes
- For 500ml–750ml water: Add 3 drops of dish soap (about the size of a soybean).
- For 2000ml water: Add 7 drops of dish soap (about the size of a soybean).
- Do not use too much dish soap, as excessive soap will prevent the film from sticking properly.
- When squeegeeing water, first squeegee in a cross pattern, then push water toward the four corners.
- Apply firm and even pressure, and wipe clean in one continuous motion.
- After installing the film, allow it to dry completely before proceeding.
- Do not install the light strips until the film is fully dry.
- If the film is not fully cured, removing the light strips later may cause the film to peel off and become damaged.
Step 2: Spring Wire Installation
Route the spring wire along the edge of the sunroof frame as video.
Next up is the wiring process.
The wiring setup can differ depending on your vehicle model. Please choose the correct wiring method according to the color of the controller you received.
After finishing the wiring, continue to Step 4: Installing the LED Light Strips.

Step 4: LED Light Strip Installation
Install the LED light strip into the designated mounting position.

my 2021 bmw x3 i30 does not have the ambiant lighting package which is controlled by the menu screen. Does that mean your sky lounge roof kit will not work in my car? if not, Is there a version which is bluetooth controllable version? thanks.
Since your 2021 BMW X3 i30 doesn’t have the factory ambient lighting package, the Sky Lounge system can still work but you’ll need one of the following two solutions:
Option 1: OEM-style (with OBD coding)
You will need an OBD coding module to activate the ambient lighting menu.
After coding, you can control color and brightness directly from your iDrive screen.
This gives you a more OEM/factory-like experience.
Note: BMW systems usually require coding to enable the ambient light menu when it wasn’t originally equipped.
Option 2: Universal version (App control)
No coding needed.
Works independently from the car system.
You can control colors and brightness via mobile app.
Easier installation, plug-and-play style.
So in short:
